While many of us are still processing and adjusting to what the year threw our way in 2021, we’re seeing the recruiting landscape evolve into 2022.

After what has felt like the most turbulent professional year in recent history, agencies are starting to prepare themselves for the new shifts in recruiting strategies we’re seeing in 2022. Many trends from 2021 are continuing into 2022 and evolving with the changing professional landscape, but recruiters should also be on alert for some new aspects thrown into the mix.

Here is Mindscope’s recruiting trend analysis for 2022.

The Rise of Proactive Recruiting

With the recent uncertainties Covid-19 created in the workforce, as a recruiter, having genuine connects with candidates not only allows a person to place those candidates, but it opens recruiters up to their network as well. This allows recruits to use the Proactive Recruiting method, meaning recruiters will search for and segment candidates before a specific position available. Creating pools or categories of candidates on hand when certain positions do become available means that proactive recruiters will be first to the draw and making their placements quicker, beating out the competition.

Mindscope’s Hot Lists function will be a proactive recruiter’s best friend in 2022. After searching for any number of skills, experiences or keywords, recruiters can then save lists of candidates for future reference. When a specific role comes along, recruiters will have a list of perfectly qualified candidates on hand to choose from.

More Efficient Social Recruiting

Using social media in staffing and recruiting will continue to be a key factor in all search strategies. While 91% of employers are already using social media in some capacity during their hiring process, their strategies can be made more effective in several ways.Through creatively incorporating new and non-traditional social platforms like TikTok, experimenting with different media formats such, and conducting regular market research to constantly improve strategies will continue to be major components of social media recruitment.

A recent study found at least 1 in 10  have used social media to create content in attempts to attract employers. Though most candidates are still passive on social media, recruiters can take their social media game one step further by searching for candidates that are actively looking to be found.

A Bigger Focus on Employer Branding

Having an effective and recognizable employer brand is becoming more relevant as each year goes by. While the notion of having an employee brand is not new, agencies need to stay on top of trends to maintain their relevance. Businesses that have a strong employer brand attract up to 50% more qualified candidates; employer branding can also reduce cost-per-hire by 50%.

Candidates are becoming more discerning about who they work for, taking into consideration, work-life balance, flexible work options, and company culture. Nearly 75% of candidates will consider a company’s employer brand before applying. Employers and agencies need to consider the needs of their ideal employee and adjust their branding approach accordingly.

Diversity and Inclusivity Hiring

Diverse workplaces have long been associated with higher revenue growth, more innovation, and increased productivity. Diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) hiring initiatives have been on the rise recently, and we predict they will become even more prevalent in 2022.

Using technology such as artificial intelligence and blind resumes can help reduce the amount of unconscious bias in the hiring process to ensure truly equitable choices are being made. In addition, labor shortages are opening doors towards groups in industries have traditionally been harder to break into, such as women in the skilled trades.

Beyond aspects such as race and gender, companies also need to consider factors such as remote and flex workers as part of their diversity initiatives, and ensure they are taking an equitable approach to giving remote workers a fair chance where possible. Incorporating remote workers has benefits for both employee and employer – a recent study found that 64% of workers would rather work remotely than receive a $30k salary increase. Using Mindscope’s skill search can ensure that recruiters are making the best hiring decisions purely based on qualifications.
